Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or English placement test score (Level 2 or higher). Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. A history of Western art from the ancient world through the medieval period. Civilizations explored include the ancient Near East and Egypt, classical Greece and Rome, and medieval Europe. Art objects and architecture are discussed within their historical context of creation, technique, aesthetics, style, subject, and purpose in an endeavor to better understand the civilizations from which they originated and their impact on Western development.
