Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in CHEM 100, one year of high school chemistry with minimum grade of B taken within the last 5 years, or satisfactory test score; Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or English placement test score (Level 2 or higher). Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. Explores the principles of molecular and cellular biology, genetics, and evolution. Includes the scientific process; chemical principles and biological molecules; cell structure, metabolism, and reproduction; Mendelian, chromosomal, and molecular genetics and genome organization. This course considers the development and mechanisms of evolutionary theory. Laboratory emphasizes development of lab skills, biological techniques, and instrumentation used in biology.
