Course Description
Prerequisite: None. This course focuses on building a foundational understanding of the field of early childhood care and education. This foundation is built upon the major theories and theorists and their connections to appropriate curricula implementation in early childhood settings. This course introduces whole child development beginning at conception. This course includes an introduction to formative assessment through observation and objective data collection. Topics include: theories in early childhood education and pedagogy into practice experiences, formative assessment, developmental milestones, high-quality environments, critical periods, attachment, and relationship building with children and families. This course aligns to MDE B-K and PK-3 standards for teacher preparation and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Professional Standards, Competencies ECE I and II. Course Description
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or English placement test score (Level 2 or higher). Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. This course focuses on building a foundational understanding of the field of early childhood care and education. This foundation is built upon the major theories and theorists and their connections to appropriate curricula implementation in early childhood settings.
