Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or English placement test score (Level 2 or higher). Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. This course focuses on whole child development. Students develop knowledge of the cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development of infants and toddlers. This course addresses development prenatally through 3 years of age. Topics include: secure attachment, interactions as the foundation for all learning, play is learning, brain development, materials, and environments. This course meets Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Clinical Experience Requirements in the category of student contact hours for the B-K grade band. This course requires a minimum of 23 hours of observation/field experience. This course aligns with MDE B-K and PK-3 standards for teach preparation and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Professional Standards, Competencies ECE I and II.
