Course Description

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in MUSI 251 required. This course is the first semester of a two-semester sequence to acquaint the singer with the correct pronunciation of the five most commonly sung languages in classical vocal art. Each course will acclimate the student to the sounds and symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet as well as provide an overview of the historical development of vocal music from Late Medieval through the 21st century. The first semester will focus specifically on English, Latin and Italian diction. The sequence is highly recommended for the student on a vocal music track. [Semester Offered: Fall]
