Visual and Performing Arts Events

2025-2026 Performances

With the exception of the spring musical, all performances are free, though donations to benefit visual and performing arts student groups are appreciated. Performances take place in the theatre in the Dale A. Lyons Building on SMC’s Dowagiac 欧洲杯外围app_欧洲杯滚球平台-投注官网.

In addition to our performances, we invite you to visit the exhibit in the Art Gallery in the Dale A. Lyons Building on our Dowagiac 欧洲杯外围app_欧洲杯滚球平台-投注官网. The gallery, which features its own events, will open one hour prior and through the end of each performing arts event listed here.

Fall Choral Concert—"Songs of the Soul"

October 24 | 7 p.m.

Join us for an inspiring journey through the Psalms—ancient poetry that has stirred hearts for millennia brought to life by master composers across the centuries. Each featured work reveals a unique facet of the human spirit in dialogue with the divine.

Fall Band Concert—“Bayou Breakdown”

November 7 | 7 p.m.
 
The SMC Bands will take you down the Mississippi to the birthplace of Jazz—New Orleans. Enjoy music from Louis Armstrong, Mongo Santamaria, Frank Ticheli, Brant Karrick, and others. Make it a night and arrive early, as Nola Roux will offer all of your favorite mouthwatering Cajun eats ($) from 5-7 p.m. just outside of the Lyons Building. Alumni are invited to join the band and chorus as we close the concert with the SMC Alma Mater.

Fall Play—“Red Days"

November 20-22 | 7:30 p.m.
November 23 | 2 p.m.

The inaugural play in the SMC BlackBox Series, Rachel Bublitz’s “Red Days” follows Dianna through four seasons, trying to balance school, running, and pursuing her passion. Meanwhile, the serious effects of the air quality wreak havoc on those athletes who dare breathe hard in the open air.

Holiday Band and Choir Concert

December 6 | 7 p.m.

SMC’s Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Choral Scholars, and Men’s Ensemble share a special holiday performance. Guest performers, soloists, small ensembles, and other surprises fill out our program. Ring in the season as the SMC Bands and Choirs present their annual gift to the community!

Theatre Club Showcase—"An Evening of Scenes"

December 8 | 7 p.m.

In its inaugural season, the SMC Theatre Club presents a performance developed by students within the club. It is the culmination of the semester’s work as students tried new techniques, tackled new topics, and pushed themselves to grow within their art as well as within themselves.

Instrumental Student Recital

December 9 | 4 p.m.

Students of the SMC applied brass, woodwind, percussion, and guitar studios will perform a variety of solo works on the fall semester's culminating instrumental musical event.

Vocal Student Recital

December 10 | 4 p.m.

Applied voice students from the studios of Matthew Daniel, tenor, and Megan Laine, soprano, will perform a varied program of songs with our collaborative pianist, Christine Seitz.

Instrumental Faculty Recital

January 27 | 6 p.m.

Please join SMC Instructor of Applied Saxophone, Oboe, and Bassoon, Mark Alvarez, alongside SMC Instructor of Clarinet, Elisabeth Waldburger, for their debut recital. This captivating recital will take you on a journey through time with a diverse program featuring works spanning the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries from Poulenc, Mellits, Bozza, and more.

Valentine's Day Cabaret

February 13 | 7 p.m. 

Join us in the Beckwith Theatre in Dowagiac for a heart-warming evening of music, romance, and charm! The Valentine’s Day Cabaret will feature enchanting solo performances, delightful small ensembles, and love-themed choral works.

Winter Band Concert—“Among Us”  

February 27 | 7 p.m.

“Among Us” captures a few of the artists who are composing, performing, and collaborating with us and living among us in the early 21st century. This concert also features the culminating work of our guest high school participants in the 2026 SMC Low Brass Clinic Day.

Spring Musical—"You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown"

March 19-21 | 7:30 p.m.
March 22 | 2:30 p.m.

In this memorable family-friendly musical, Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship.

Spring Choral Concert—"Royal Resonance"

April 9 | 7 p.m.

The voices of Berrien Springs High School, Chorllennium, and Southwestern Michigan College unite for an unforgettable evening of choral artistry. At the heart of the program is Mozart’s Coronation Mass, paired with an eclectic set of choral works spanning centuries and styles and celebrating the beauty and diversity of the choral art.

Spring Collage Concert

May 1 | 7 p.m.

The ensembles of the SMC Bands and Choirs combine for an entertaining and fast-paced evening of music. Student soloists and small groups will be highlighted, with programming to feature a wide variety of genres and settings for all ages.
